On the Edge
by Marilyn Bayer (Columbia, SC)

I have the best of intentions
to change my capricious ways.
I've tread down this ancient path before.
Some habits left while others stayed.

I will keep working at my edges
tending to them as never before -
cultivating a beautiful garden
of solitude among the plants and soil.

So what's the difference now you ask?
Yes, I have been down this path before.
Each step I take will be in faith, forever
grateful for the redemption of my soul.
